*Sarah Jakes Roberts is recovering after a frightening accident that she says nearly left her paralyzed. The author and pastor revealed details of the incident in a social media update, describing how quickly the situation escalated from a routine family moment, PEOPLE reports.
She explained that the injury occurred while she was playing with her daughter on a trampoline, where she “landed on my neck.” The impact was immediate and alarming, as she recalled, “Instantly, I heard several pops in my neck.” Emergency services were contacted, and she was taken for medical evaluation.
Doctors later determined the severity of her condition after extensive testing. “Two hospitals, several scans, and hours later, we learned that I had fractured my neck, herniated discs, and endangered areas of my spine that could have left me paralyzed,” she shared. Reflecting on how close the outcome could have been, she added, “One disc up or one disc lower, and this would’ve been a different testimony.”
In her initial post, Roberts described the ordeal in stark terms, writing, “Last night was scary. I was almost paralyzed, but God didn’t see fit to let that be my story.” She is now wearing a neck brace and expects to continue healing over the next several weeks, focusing on rest and limiting movement to prevent further injury.
“I’ll be wearing this brace for 4-6 weeks to keep my neck stable and avoid further damage. Rest and recovery will give my body a chance to heal. I’ll be lying low while I navigate this injury with wisdom,” she wrote.
“I’m soaking in the presence and kindness of God and in the love of friends and family. So, if you see me and I’m out and about, but moving slowly, just know that I’m still the birthday even with a neck brace,” Roberts added. Check out her full Instagram post below.
