Cachalia, Motshekga meet to clarify security plans ahead of June 30

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia is meeting with Defence Minister Angie Motshekga at the South African Police Service (SAPS) Gauteng Provincial Office in Johannesburg, to clarify the security strategies in anticipation of the nationwide demonstrations scheduled for June 30.

The discussions come amid escalating tensions surrounding undocumented immigrants and renewed calls for a national shutdown by the March and March movement, which has been calling for stricter action against undocumented migrants.

The closed-door meeting follows high-level discussions by the Justice, Crime Prevention, and Security Cluster at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, on the rising wave of anti-illegal immigration protests throughout the country.

Government asserts that it is intensifying efforts to uphold law and order ahead of the upcoming June 30 demonstrations.

The ministers are expected to provide updates following Monday’s meeting. -Reporting by Lerato Makola
