Cardi B Surpasses Nicki Minaj With Historic Fourth Diamond Single
Cardi B claimed an unprecedented sales distinction as “WAP” elevated her beyond a longtime rival within rap’s record books.

Cardi B‘s hit song “WAP” earned Diamond status and subsequently pushed her past Nicki Minaj, the previous record holder.
The Recording Industry Association of America certified Cardi B’s 2020 collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion at 10 million units in early August 2026. The achievement gave Cardi B four Diamond certified songs, the highest total among female rappers.
Minaj had the record with three Diamond singles, “Super Bass,” “Starships” and “Bang Bang,” a collaboration with Jessie J and Ariana Grande.
In similar fashion, Cardi B reached the record with a catalog built through both solo success and major partnerships. Her four qualifying songs are “Bodak Yellow,” “I Like It” with Bad Bunny and J Balvin, “Girls Like You” with Maroon 5 and “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion.
The collaborative nature of three of those records has fueled online debate about how the achievement should be measured. The RIAA certifications still count each performance toward Cardi B’s total, whether she appeared as the lead artist or joined another act.

“WAP” also delivered a career first for Megan Thee Stallion, who received her first Diamond plaque through the certification. Released nearly six years ago, the single has held firm over time.
“Bodak Yellow” was actually the first song by a female rapper to receive the Diamond honor. It also laid the commercial foundation for her debut album, Invasion of Privacy.
That album later became the first album by any artist to have every song certified at least platinum. “I Like It” and “Girls Like You” subsequently joined Cardi B’s Diamond tally before “WAP” lifted her into sole possession of the female rap record.
