CID storm Among’s village home as corruption probe deepens

A high-powered team of detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), backed by other security agencies, has descended on the home village of former Speaker Anita Among in Bukedea, marking a dramatic escalation in an already explosive corruption probe.

The investigators arrived in Aputiput Village, Kamutur Sub-county, on  Friday, widening a sweeping operation that has in recent days targeted her residences, parliamentary offices, and close associates.

This latest move comes barely a day after a joint force of police and military officers raided Among’s offices at Parliament, sealing off the fifth floor of the north wing and declaring it an active crime scene.

Security was immediately tightened, with access restricted as detectives combed through documents, computers, and other materials believed to be critical to the investigation.

Sources within Parliament say the operation is part of a fast-moving probe that kicked off over the weekend, with authorities racing to secure evidence before it could be tampered with.

Earlier raids on Saturday saw investigators search Among’s homes in Nakasero, Kigo, and Ntinda, where key materials were reportedly seized.

The probe has since spread to the residence of her husband, Moses Magogo, signalling that investigators are casting a wider net in what is shaping into a high-stakes case.

Inside Parliament, the impact has been immediate and chilling.

Staff and legislators are said to be on edge, with some going quiet, others disappearing from the public eye, and several hurriedly locking down their social media accounts.

Those once seen as close allies of Among are reportedly distancing themselves, quietly deleting photos and avoiding any visible association as political tides shift.

The intensifying crackdown comes just days after Among abruptly pulled out of the Speaker race, a decision widely viewed as fallout from the mounting pressure of the investigation.

In her statement, she cited “wide consultations and deep introspection” and said her withdrawal was aimed at preserving unity within the ruling National Resistance Movement.

Despite the scale of the raids, authorities have remained tight-lipped on the exact nature of the allegations.

However, the speed, coordination, and reach of the operation point to a case of significant political weight, one that could have far-reaching consequences.

By press time, heavy security remained deployed at Parliament, with the sealed offices still under guard as investigators pressed on, signalling that the probe is not only widening but gaining momentum at the highest levels.
