On 28 May 2026, the Melrose Arch will play host to Colours of Compassion – a charity art auction where every bid raised will directly support the Smile Foundation’s mission of providing critical reconstructive surgery and burns treatments to children across SA.
Johannesburg, South Africa (25 May 2026) – Lovers of the arts and any reason to support an event driven by purpose can mark their calendars for the Colours of Compassion: a special art auction by Smile Foundation, in collaboration with August House and upstART Galleries, taking place on 28 May 2026 at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg.
The evening will bring together more than 34 South African artists who have donated works in support of Smile Foundation’s work with children requiring reconstructive surgery and burns treatment.
The talented artists featured in the auction include William Kentridge, Diane Victor, Usha Seejarim, Percy Maimela, Melissa Haiden, Nwabisa Ntlokwana, Alpheus Ngoepe, Samurai Farai, Gustav Krantz, Olivia Pinter, Simon Mashapo, Sizwe Khoza, Kathryn Barnard, Dustin August, Dumisani Jere and Zakes Mda, alongside many other established and emerging South African artists. Additional participating artists include Andrew Ntshabele, Asanda Dredunik Kupa, Bekezela Mabena, Blessing Blaai, Dbongz Mahlathi, Elvis Magagula, Heino Schmitt, Johan Stegmann, Lerato Nkosi, Lindelwa Matsebula, Lindo Zwane, Mbali Tshabalala, Mongezi Mcombo, Njabulo Hlophe, Nomonde Mtetwa, Sihlobo Moyo, Sue Pam Grant, Teboho Makoatsa, Thamsanga Mfuphi, Thokozani Mthiyane, Tshepo Motaung, Tumelo Motaung and Wisani Manyisi.
The works explore themes of identity, healing, belonging and the human experience, deeply personal stories that connect closely with the journeys of the children and families supported through Smile Foundation.
Funds raised from the auction will help support reconstructive surgery, burns treatment and psychosocial support for children across South Africa.
“Every artwork in this exhibition carries something personal,” says Tarri Parfitt, CEO of Smile Foundation.
“What makes this evening so special is that the artists are using their talent to help give children access to treatment, confidence and a better future.”
More than just an auction, Colours of Compassion aims to create a space where art and purpose come together in a meaningful way.
