With Bafana Bafana returning to the FIFA World Cup after 16 years, Castle Lager’s latest campaign celebrates the supporters who stayed loyal through every high and low.
South Africa (15 May 2026) – With just under a month to go before Bafana Bafana make their long-awaited return to the FIFA World Cup stage, Castle Lager has dropped a campaign that is striking a chord with South African football fans. In this case, the supporters who never stopped believing. There is a sense that something special is about to unfold again.
After 16 years away from football’s biggest stage, the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has started to feel real, and the new video captures exactly why this moment means so much to supporters across the country. It is memory, identity, and pride coming full circle.
It captures the emotional rollercoaster that comes with watching football. The tension, the nerves, the celebration, the near misses, the disappointment and the small moments that bring fans together. Where every match feels like it carries a full range of emotions in 90 minutes.
From the glory of the iconic AFCON 1996 to years of heartbreak, rebuilding and near misses, South African supporters have stayed behind the national team through every chapter. Now, with Bafana Bafana finally heading back to football’s biggest stage in 2026, Castle Lager’s latest campaign taps directly into that emotion. It feels like a connection between different generations
Using archival-inspired cinematography, old-school jerseys, authentic makarapas and recreated football moments, the campaign revisits different eras of South African football culture leading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It is a fitting choice that ties past and present together through sound.
But the emotional heartbeat of the film comes through its music.
The soundtrack features a reimagined version of Camille Yarbrough’s 1975 classic Take Yo Praise, famously sampled in Fatboy Slim’s Praise You. The song was transformed into something uniquely South African through a new vocal performance by Mbali Makhoba from Freshlyground alongside a local choir.
And it all builds toward Castle Lager’s new platform: “Here’s to the fans that stood the test of time.”
It is a fitting message for supporters who waited 16 years to see Bafana Bafana back at the FIFA World Cup. For many supporters, it is a message that hits home. Through all the ups and downs, the South African fans kept showing up.
South Africa will face Mexico in the tournament opener on 11 June at the iconic Estadio Azteca, as the country prepares to experience football’s biggest stage once again. It is a fixture that already feels historic before a ball is even kicked.
