South Africa’s 15-player squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 was unveiled through a creative video featuring a young fan in an empty stadium.
South Africa (15 May 2026) – A quiet stadium. An empty field. A young girl standing in the middle with a book titled “My World Cup Heroes”.
That’s how the Proteas Women chose to reveal their 15-player squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, and it’s already winning attention for its creative, feel-good approach.
In the video, the young fan walks through the stadium imagining the players she looks up to, flipping through her book as names are revealed one by one. Those heroes are confirmed as the players who will carry South Africa’s hopes on the world stage.
South Africa’s squad for the tournament in England and Wales is now official, with Laura Wolvaardt once again leading the side as captain. The star batter, currently ranked third in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, will guide the team into her second World Cup as skipper.
One of the biggest talking points from the announcement is the return of experienced fast bowler Shabnim Ismail, who has come out of retirement to make herself available for the tournament.
While the names on the list carry weight, it’s the storytelling behind the announcement that has stood out. The Proteas will head into the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales with a squad that blends leadership, returning stars, and rising talent.
