Cardiac Monitors Donation Brings a Lifeline of Hope for Johannesburg’s Youngest Warriors

The Winnie Mabaso Foundation has stepped in to protect Johannesburg’s bravest little hearts with a donation of desperately needed equipment at the children’s oncology ward in Johannesburg.

Johannesburg, South Africa (10 May 2026) – To step into a children’s oncology ward in Johannesburg is to enter a world defined by a heavy, quiet kind of courage. Here, the typical sounds of childhood play and giggles are replaced by the soft murmurs of mothers in prayer and the steady voices of nurses encouraging young warriors who refuse to give up the good fight.

Until recently, however, the ward faced a critical challenge: it was in desperate need of cardiac monitors and trolleys to track the electrical activity and rate of these many little fighting hearts, and to efficiently transport medical supplies throughout the facility.

To help bridge the gap between a fragile heartbeat and a fighting chance, ensuring every sudden shift in a child’s vitals is met with an immediate, life-saving response, the Winnie Mabaso Foundation stepped in.

The Foundation recently donated five cardiac monitors and trolleys to the oncology ward, playing a vital role in strengthening the ward’s ability to protect its bravest patients.

“These are going to make a massive difference to the ward and to the children’s care,” the Foundation said.

Sharing in the Winnie Mabaso team’s joy was the Rainbows and Smiles charity, which works alongside them in supporting young warriors at the ward and the healthcare staff who care for them every single day.

“These are not just machines… they are reassurance in critical moments, support for the medical teams, and a layer of care that every child in that ward so deeply deserves,” Rainbows and Smiles said in a gratitude post.

“Because of you, the standard of care has been lifted. Because of you, little lives are being held just a little bit safer. To your incredible donors, thank you for showing up with such generosity and purpose. This is what impact looks like. This is what love in action feels like.”

Thanks to this generous donation, many young patients will receive improved care while their dedicated healthcare team is empowered to watch over every precious heartbeat with even greater precision.
