The Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) pledged fruit tree seedlings worth N$100 000 to the Kavango West Regional Fruit Tree Planting Project on Monday.

The pledge followed a courtesy meeting with governor Verna Sinimbo at the NAB offices in Windhoek.

It supports the ‘Tapeka, Lima, Tulye’ project led by the governor’s office to boost household food security, nutrition, and community resilience through fruit tree planting.

The partnership also formalised a working relationship to coordinate rollout across the region.

In her remarks, Sinimbo expressed gratitude to NAB chief executive Fidelis Mwazi and his team for the support, saying the contribution is timely and practical.

“Allow me to express my deepest appreciation to the NAB for your commitment to support the ‘Tapeka, Lima, Tulye’ tree planting project. Your generous pledge of fruit tree seedlings is both meaningful and strategic,” Sinimbo said.

The project, launched on 12 November 2025 in the Ncamagoro constituency, aims to provide each household in the region with at least two fruit trees.

It combines household distribution with community and school-based planting, particularly at schools with gardens, to build agricultural skills and promote nutrition.

“This initiative is rooted in my deep passion for agriculture, particularly fruit tree cultivation, as a long-term solution to strengthening and improving household food security and nutrition and building resilience,” Sinimbo said.

She added that the NAB’s support reinforces coordination between regional leadership and national institutions to scale up delivery.

“Together, we are laying a firm foundation for a food-secure and economically empowered Kavango West region,” Sinimbo said.

The initiative has reached the Ncamagoro, Ncuncuni, Tondoro, Musese, Nkurenkuru, Mpungu, and Kapako constituencies – with Mankumpi still to be covered.

Nearly 1 000 seedlings have been donated and distributed.

Donations are ongoing following a public call for contributions to the Office of the Governor.
