American skateboarder Jason Vanporppal was met with a guard of honour from schoolchildren and teachers as he continued his journey towards Cape Town
Beaufort West, South Africa (21 May 2026)- American skateboarder Jason Vanporppal is continuing his long-distance skating journey across Africa, with his latest stretch bringing him through parts of the Western Cape as he edges closer to Cape Town.
Along the route, Jason was met with an unexpected and heartwarming moment of support when a group of schoolchildren and teachers in Beaufort West created a roadside guard of honour to welcome him through. The learners lined up, cheering and reaching out for high-fives as he skated past, turning a simple stop on the road into a moment of pure excitement and connection.
The group responded with loud cheers and nonstop encouragement, with Jason making his way down the line, repeatedly high-fiving learners and teachers who had gathered to show support.
The spontaneous welcome comes as Jason continues his skating journey across Africa, documenting long distances, changing road conditions and the many communities he encounters along the way. His trip has steadily gained attention online, with viewers following each new update as he moves from one town to the next.
He is now continuing his journey further along the route towards Cape Town, with more updates expected as he progresses through the final stretch of his African skate adventure.
