GRAMMY award-winning composer Lebo M is changing the tune in his legal battle with Zimbabwean comedian, Learnmore Jonasi.

The music legend had previously taken legal action against Jonasi after comments he made about The Lion King song and its translation during an interview on the One54 podcast.

At the time, he said he was suing Learnmore for US$27 million.

Now, in a surprising turn of events, Lebo M is extending an olive branch.

According to a statement, the internationally acclaimed composer has instructed his team to reach out to Learnmore in an effort to resolve the matter amicably.

“In a decisive and statesmanlike move that underscores his commitment to cultural integrity and constructive dialogue, Grammy Award winner, internationally acclaimed composer and cultural icon Lebo M has formally initiated steps toward a potential resolution in the ongoing matter involving Zimbabwean comedian Learnmore Mwanyenyeka.

“Acting on Lebo M’s direct instruction, his team has reached out to Learnmore to explore the possibility of a structured settlement-signalling a shift from contention to conversation,” it read.

The statement also highlights that Lebo M remains committed to standing firm on matters of intellectual property and African cultural integrity.

“At this time, no formal agreement has been concluded. However, the tone of engagement marks a notable pivot one that reinforces Lebo M’s reputation not only as a global creative force but as a custodian of African cultural heritage who leads with principle, not impulse,” the statement read.

His spokesman, Tshepo Mboni, said Lebo M wants to find common ground.

“Lebo M has confirmed that he has instructed his team to initiate a second outreach to Learnmore while he is currently on tour, in a renewed effort to find common ground and bring the matter to a constructive and amicable resolution,” he said.
