A crowdfunder has been launched to help bring much-loved South London community figure Simon “Lenin” Forbes home following his death this week in Portugal, aged 60.
Lenin was a regular fixture and well-known character across South London, particularly in Tulse Hill around The Railway, where he and his family and friends were a familiar presence over the years.
In the days before his passing, his son Charlie shared that the family had been by his side in Portugal and invited friends to send messages and voice notes to be played to him. The warmth of responses reflected the depth of affection felt for him across Brixton and beyond.
Tributes have described him as “a true legend”, “one of the kindest people I ever met”, and “a wonderful, bonkers, clever, witty, loving man with the biggest heart”. Many spoke of his warmth, humour and the quiet gestures of friendship he offered without fanfare.
The crowdfunder aims to cover repatriation costs and associated expenses, easing the burden on his family at an already devastating time.
Deepest condolences to Mary, Charlie, Izzy, Zoe in their time of grief and loss.
