David Bebro turns setbacks into perseverance message

Namibian artist David Bebro has turned the challenges he encountered while producing his latest EP, FIYO, into a message of perseverance, encouraging listeners to keep pushing despite difficult circumstances.

Released on 13 September, FIYO, meaning “until”, is rooted in Bebro’s personal experiences and daily life. He describes the project as a form of self-motivation and a reminder that success requires persistence.

“My inspiration comes from life experiences and daily events. FIYO serves as self-motivation and is a project that is very close to my heart. The title means ‘until’ in plain language, and what I intend to say is that whatever I am doing, I must not stop until I get the results I need. That is the message I also want to pass on to people through this project: whatever circumstances they may find themselves in, they should keep believing, keep going and never give up,” Bebro said.

The message takes on added significance given the difficulties he faced while bringing the project to completion.

Bebro said the production process was affected by limited studio time, changes to recording schedules, delays in mixing and mastering, and the loss of recorded files.

Some material had to be re-recorded after files were lost, adding costs and contributing to delays in the EP’s release.

Rather than allowing the setbacks to derail the project, Bebro said they reinforced the message he wanted to communicate through the music.

“The process was not always easy. Sometimes the studio time allocated was not enough, and there were occasions when producers had to reschedule when I was already prepared and in the mood to put those emotions on record. There were also delays in mixing and mastering, and at some point some of the recording files were lost, which meant we had to record again. This caused delays in the release and came with extra costs, but I did not allow those challenges to stop me. They actually reminded me of what FIYO stands for: you keep going until you get it done,” he said.

Bebro describes the EP as a project aimed at combining entertainment with motivation, with songs he hopes can encourage listeners through difficult periods.

“I am now in the right space to deliver and deliver. This EP has provided listeners with fun and motivational music aimed at entertaining and motivating them, while also speaking to their souls. I want people to keep believing and keep going, whatever the circumstances may be. The message is simple: don’t stop and never give up,” he said.

Bebro said FIYO also represents growth in his music, particularly in the quality of his delivery and arrangements.

He describes the sound as raw and natural and said he wanted the project to maintain an authentic feel while presenting a higher level of quality compared with his previous work.

For Bebro, the EP is therefore not simply a new musical release but a reflection of his own determination to continue developing as an artist.

He said the project has “awakened” his spirit and strengthened his resolve to keep pushing himself.

Now that FIYO is available, Bebro hopes to use the project as a platform to expand his audience beyond Namibia.
