Enyimba technical adviser Emmanuel Deutsch has played down his side’s defeat to Rangers, insisting the loss in the fiercely contested Oriental Derby was not a disastrous result for the Aba giants.
The People’s Elephant suffered a 2-1 setback against Rangers International at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday night in one of the standout fixtures of the Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Enyimba looked on course for a valuable away result after taking the lead just before halftime. Wonah Williams struck in the 44th minute to silence the home crowd and hand the visitors a slim advantage heading into the break.
However, Rangers responded strongly in the second half and turned the game around with an impressive comeback.
Chidozie Iwundu restored parity for the Flying Antelopes before Ifeanyi Onyebuchi completed the turnaround with the winning goal to spark celebrations among the home supporters.
Speaking after the encounter, Deutsch acknowledged the disappointment of defeat but maintained that the result was not overly damaging considering the quality and importance of the contest.
The Cameroonian tactician noted that both teams were desperate for maximum points and praised the intensity of the encounter, stressing that losing away in such a derby should not be viewed negatively.
