ECONET Telecom Lesotho (ETL) has moved to reassure customers over concerns about the rapid depletion of their mobile data, saying it remains committed to delivering value, transparency and the best network experience in the country.
The company’s response comes after social media platforms were flooded with complaints from subscribers who claimed that their data bundles were being consumed at an unusually fast rate.
In an interview this week, Econet’s Public Relations and Customer Experience Manager, Puleng Masoabi, said the telecommunications giant took the concerns of its customers seriously and was actively engaging with the issue.
“At Econet Telecom Lesotho, our customers are at the centre of everything we do. We are aware of the concerns being raised regarding data usage and perceived fast data depletion, and we would like to assure our customers that we take these concerns seriously,” Ms Masoabi said.
She said the company understood the critical role data now plays in the lives of Basotho, from businesses and students to families and communities.
“As Lesotho’s leading telecommunications provider, we understand that data has become an essential part of daily life for families, businesses, students and communities. Customers deserve value, transparency and a network experience they can trust,” she said.
Ms Masoabi noted that Econet’s continued investment in cutting-edge technology had enabled it to provide nationwide 4G coverage and 5G services in major urban centres.
“Econet remains proud to operate the country’s most advanced mobile data network, with 4G coverage available nationwide and 5G services already deployed across major metropolitan areas. This investment ensures that customers enjoy faster speeds, better streaming quality, improved video calling experiences and seamless connectivity wherever they are,” she said.
However, she explained that faster internet speeds and richer digital experiences could also lead to higher data consumption.
“Improved network speeds and richer digital experiences can naturally result in higher data consumption, particularly when using high-definition video streaming, automatic application updates, cloud backups, social media video content and other modern digital services that consume significantly more data than traditional browsing,” Ms Masoabi said.
To address growing demand and improve customer experience, she said the company was investing heavily in additional network capacity, further optimisation of its 4G and 5G networks and expanding coverage to more communities across Lesotho.
“The company is also stepping up consumer education initiatives through its social media programme, Guess What Mondays, to help subscribers better understand their data usage patterns and learn how to maximise the value of their bundles.”
Beyond telecommunications services, Ms Masoabi said Econet remained committed to improving the lives of Basotho through various corporate social investment programmes.
“Through partnerships with other corporates as well as micro, small and medium enterprises, and investments across the country, the company continues to give back to the communities that have supported its growth over the years,” she said.
She added that customer feedback was invaluable to the company.
“We appreciate the feedback from our customers because it helps us improve. Your concerns are heard, your experiences matter and your trust remains our greatest priority.”
Ms Masoabi said Econet’s mission remained unchanged despite the concerns raised online.
“As we continue investing in technology and innovation, our commitment remains unchanged, that is, to deliver the best network experience while contributing meaningfully to the development and prosperity of Lesotho.
“We are still the Best Data Network and still Inspired to change your world for the better.”
