Eight Roman Catholic parishioners killed in commuter omnibus crash

EIGHT members of the Roman Catholic Church perished in Hwange, Matebeleland  North, this Saturday morning in a road traffic accident while returning from an all-night vigil.

The victims were part of 13 occupants aboard the ill-fated commuter omnibus.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the tragedy.

“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident at Deka Bridge along Deka Road, Hwange.

“Eight Roman Catholic members died when their kombi plunged into the bridge as they were coming from night prayers. The accident occurred on May 23, 2026, at 0700 hours. The vehicle had 13 occupants. More details to be released soon,” said Nyathi.
