Voters in Choiseul/Saltibus were out before sunrise on Election Day, with lines forming by 5:30 a.m. across several polling divisions as residents turned out to cast their ballots in what both candidates expect to be a decisive contest.

The UWP’s Bradly Felix and Keithson “Kiffo” Charles of the SLP spent the morning casting their votes and making their final rounds across the constituency as they assessed the mood on the ground.

The St Lucia Times team caught up with Felix at the I2 polling division at Mongouge Combined School, where he shared his early impressions of the day. Felix said he believes voter participation is up this year.

“The turnout is a lot larger than the 2021 election,” he said, adding that he also feels encouraged about his own chances.

“Feedback is encouraging. Very, very encouraging.”

We also caught up with Charles at the I3 polling division at Choiseul Secondary School, where he was in line to cast his vote. He said he is equally confident that the people of Choiseul/Saltibus are ready for a change.

“I am confident that the people of Choiseul/Saltibus will make the right decision today,” he said.

“We’re hoping for the very best outcome. A new day is on the horizon.”

With strong early turnout and both candidates signalling confidence, all eyes now turn to tonight’s vote count.
