By Zoila Palma: Today, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Enterprise, together with the Board of Directors of the Kolbe Foundation announced the change of leadership at the Belize Central Prison.
On May 19, 2026, Virgilio Murillo, Chief Executive Officer Emeritus of the Kolbe Foundation, officially handed over leadership responsibilities to George Gomez.
“This transition marks the successful completion of a four-month leadership transition process for the position of Chief Executive Officer at the Belize Central Prison,” the Ministry said.
“Gomez was formally installed as CEO of the Kolbe Foundation by the Board of Directors on 19th May 2026. He expressed his passion for leading the correctional facility, working with the dedicated staff of the Kolbe Foundation, and advancing efforts aimed at the rehabilitation of inmates and their successful reintegration into society,” the Ministry added.
The Board of Directors and the Ministry also commended Virgilio Murillo for his steadfast and visionary leadership over the past 24 years.
During his tenure as CEO, Murillo played a pivotal role in the transformation of the Belize Central Prison through the mission and vision of the Kolbe Foundation.
The Ministry noted that Murillo will continue to serve in the capacity of Special Advisor to the Board of Directors of the Kolbe Foundation.
