Nigeria international Gift Orban is expected to return to German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim at the end of the current season after Hellas Verona reportedly decided against making his loan move permanent.
The 23-year-old striker joined the Serie A club on a season-long loan last summer in search of regular playing time, with the agreement including an option for Verona to complete a full transfer after the campaign.
Orban made a steady contribution during his spell in Italy, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 28 league appearances for the Yellow and Blues.
His performances helped strengthen Verona’s attacking options during key stages of the season.
However, the forward’s recent dip in form appears to have influenced the club’s decision, as he has gone nearly three months without finding the back of the net.
According to reports from German outlet BILD, Verona have now chosen not to activate the purchase clause, meaning the Nigerian forward will head back to Hoffenheim once the season concludes.
Orban remains under contract with Hoffenheim until 2029, giving the Bundesliga side control over his immediate future.
The German club could decide to reintegrate him into their squad next season or explore fresh transfer opportunities during the summer window.
The striker only joined Hoffenheim in January 2025 in a €9 million move from French side Olympique Lyonnais, but opportunities have been limited, prompting the temporary switch to Italy.
With his Verona chapter nearing an end, attention will now turn to where Orban continues his career next season as he looks to rediscover his best form and remain in contention for Nigeria national team selection.
