Award-winning gospel singer Richard Smallwood has died at the age of 77. His passing was announced by his family in a statement shared on social media Tuesday.

In the statement, the family said Smallwood’s music inspired and uplifted countless listeners, leaving a lasting mark on the world of gospel music. He was best known for his popular and widely performed song, “Total Praise.”

“We are saddened to announce the passing of world-renowned artist, songwriter, and musician Richard Smallwood,” the statement read. “The family asks that you respect our privacy during this difficult time, while helping to celebrate the legacy he leaves behind and the gifts he unselfishly shared with the world.”

Over the course of his career, Smallwood recorded more than 15 studio and live albums and received numerous Dove and Stellar Awards.
