Ground broken for N$22.5m Cocoma Primary School expansion

Construction of new classrooms, hostel facilities and other infrastructure at Cocoma Primary School in the Kavango East region is set to begin on Monday.

The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture has allocated N$22.5 million for the project after years of declining the school’s requests for additional classrooms and hostel facilities on the grounds that it did not meet the required criteria.

The development comes just weeks after school principal Moses Ndumba again appealed to the government and the business community for assurance.

Ministry representative Erastus Kaishungu said on Thursday during the official handover of the site that the contract was awarded to Vega Investment CC.

Kaishungu said the project includes the construction of a new administration block, girls’ and boys’ hostels, four classrooms, teachers’ houses, a kitchen and dining hall, a storeroom, ablution facilities, septic tanks, two 10 000-litre water tanks and a fence around the school.

The project is expected to be completed by March 2027.
