Guyana strengthens its passport. Is Belize next?

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP):  Guyana has just made its passport more powerful, and it raises a question many Belizeans are asking: when will our Government do the same?

This week, Guyana announced that its citizens can now enter Saudi Arabia with a visa on arrival or an electronic visa, without needing a US, UK or Schengen visa first. Guyana says it is the only South American country with that privilege.

The breakthrough came through focused diplomacy. Guyana’s foreign ministry says it grew out of stronger bilateral relations and shared interests in trade, investment and tourism with Saudi Arabia. Guyana has also committed to improving its passports to meet international standards.

For ordinary Guyanese, the benefit is real. No agents. No embassy visits. Just a passport and a fee.

Belizeans know the frustration of visa applications, costly fees and long waits to travel to many countries. A stronger passport means easier travel for work, study, business, religious pilgrimage and family visits.

So the question stands. What is the Government of Belize doing to expand visa free and visa on arrival access for Belizeans? Which new agreements are being pursued, and how is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs working to raise the value of the Belizean passport?

Guyana has shown what targeted diplomacy can achieve. Belizeans deserve to know what our plan is.

BBN invites the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to share what steps are being taken to strengthen the Belizean passport.
