By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two Belize City men accused of impersonating police officers and committing an armed robbery were denied bail on Friday by Justice Nigel Pilgrim during a High Court bail application hearing.
The accused are 27-year-old Kenroy Amani Daly, a security guard of #11 Sarstoon Street, and 26-year-old Ahkeem Rashawn Danderson, a laborer of Racoon Street Extension, Belize City.
The pair were jointly arraigned last week in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a total of nine charges stemming from an alleged armed robbery at a vapor shop on Daly Street on April 27, 2026. Both men were jointly charged with one count of robbery, one count each of keeping an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and one count of false pretense of officer for allegedly acting as police officers without lawful authority from the Commissioner of Police. Daly alone also faces an additional charge of aggravated assault upon a police officer.
Both men pleaded not guilty to all charges and were initially denied bail due to the seriousness of the firearm-related offenses. They were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 30, 2026.
According to police reports, officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at a vapor shop where the complainant reported that two armed men had robbed him before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. Police say a swift response led to a hot pursuit, during which Daly allegedly opened fire at one of the pursuing officers but missed. Both men were later detained in the area.
During Friday’s bail application, attorney David McKoy argued that his clients should be granted bail because no firearm was allegedly found on them, they were not detained in the immediate vicinity of the robbery, and neither man was found wearing police uniforms.
However, Justice Pilgrim ruled that the reasons presented did not amount to “special circumstances” sufficient to justify bail in a matter involving serious firearm allegations. The judge instructed that the men may reapply for bail in three months.
Following the ruling, attorney McKoy explained that because the men have already been denied bail at the High Court level, they can no longer seek bail through the lower court after 90 days on remand and must instead make any future applications directly to the High Court.
