Early voting opened at 6 a.m. on Friday at the Vieux Fort Police Divisional Headquarters, where two polling stations received members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, port officers, firefighters and other emergency and first-response personnel.
A police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity said she was surprised by the turnout. “I think the numbers are high from my observation… considering that it’s so early and we already have so many people. I do think the numbers will increase as the day goes by,” she told St. Lucia Times.
“I think that the wait was a bit long. I’ve been here from after 6 a.m. and I just came out and it’s 8:53 a.m., so it was long. Other than that, it was good.”

Traffic at the stations increased steadily throughout the morning.
The Vieux Fort headquarters processed special-service voters from Vieux Fort South, Vieux Fort North, Micoud South, Micoud North, Dennery South and Laborie. Electoral staff said officers assigned to work on Monday cast ballots at the Vieux Fort Primary School.
“We only have two polling stations at this division,” an election clerk stationed at the divisional headquarters said. “You will see there is quite a backup in terms of the lines, but what will happen on Monday for general elections, you will have a lot more polling stations… so in the event you have a high turnout, the lines will not be as long and you will be moving much more quickly.”
The rest of the electorate is scheduled to vote on Monday, December 1.
