Janelle James is stepping into the spotlight, and this time, she’s leaving the school hallways behind to deliver some unfiltered comedy. The comedian and Abbott Elementary star is gearing up for her debut hour-long stand-up special, premiering November 10, 2026.
Known for her razor-sharp wit, unapologetic humor, and scene-stealing performance as Principal Ava Coleman on ABC’s hit comedy Abbott Elementary, James is bringing her signature comedic perspective to the stage for an hour of laughs, outrageous observations, and conversations that might just have audiences clutching their pearls.
In the upcoming special, James tackles everything from body counts and bank accounts to the rather unconventional argument for why women should wrestle men. Yes, you read that correctly. And if you’ve followed James’ comedy career, you already know she isn’t afraid to say the things other people are probably thinking but wouldn’t dare admit out loud.
While many television fans recognize James for her portrayal of the hilariously self-absorbed and endlessly quotable Ava Coleman, her roots in stand-up comedy run deep. Long before she was stealing scenes on network television, James was making audiences laugh with her candid storytelling, biting social commentary, and ability to find humor in life’s most uncomfortable situations.
Her debut hour-long special offers audiences an opportunity to experience another side of the performer beyond her beloved television character. Without the fictional confines of Abbott Elementary, James gets to take complete control of the microphone, the conversation, and, most importantly, the punchlines.
The special is written and performed by James, who also serves as executive producer. Marcus Russell Price directs, with Matt Schuler serving as producer.
For fans who can’t get enough of James’ comedic timing and fearless delivery, this upcoming special promises a chance to see the comedian doing what she does best: making people laugh while challenging the absurdities of everyday life.
Janelle James‘ debut hour-long stand-up special premieres November 10, 2026.
