Jubilee Insurance Uganda, in partnership with My Tree Initiative Organisation, joined the global commemoration of World Environment Day with a tree-planting exercise in Wakiso district aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and restoring degraded ecosystems.
The initiative brought together staff from Jubilee Insurance, partners, local leaders and community members, in a collective effort to combat climate change through tree planting and conservation awareness.
Speaking at the event, the chief operating officer of Jubilee Insurance Uganda, Dorcus Kuhimbisa, said the company is committed to translating its sustainability agenda into practical action that delivers meaningful impact.
“Jubilee Insurance firmly believes that businesses have a responsibility beyond financial performance. Our role is not only to protect lives and businesses against risk, but also to contribute to the wellbeing of the communities and environment in which we operate,” she said.
Kuhimbisa added that as an insurer, the company understands risk and the importance of prevention, resilience and sustainability.
“That is why we continue to invest in environmental conservation initiatives, with tree planting being one of the key pillars of our sustainability agenda,” she said.
My Tree Initiative team leader Bukenya Ashiraf welcomed the partnership, noting that it will strengthen ongoing efforts to engage young people in environmental protection.
“We appreciate Jubilee Insurance for supporting initiatives that empower young people to plant and care for trees. Together, we are integrating environmental education into schools and nurturing future champions of our planet,” he said.
He added that the collaboration is helping to promote hands-on learning among students, while also improving school environments and supporting sustainable practices.
The headteacher of Gayaza Adventist Secondary School, Sensonga Notopher, said the institution is committed to environmental conservation and welcomed the partnership as a step towards achieving long-term impact.
“As a school, we recognise that a healthy environment is essential for our survival and the success of our students. Collaborations like this enable us to create meaningful and lasting impact,” he said.
Organisers said the tree-planting drive is part of broader efforts to encourage collective action in addressing environmental challenges, particularly deforestation and climate change.
They emphasised the need for continued partnerships between the private sector, communities and institutions to ensure sustainable environmental management.
