Kigezi HomeBoyz hold KCCA to goalless draw in Kamwenge

Kigezi HomeBoyz held KCCA to a goalless draw in a tight Uganda Premier League encounter at Rwamwanja Stadium, Kamwenge, on Tuesday.

KCCA came into the fixture under intense pressure following back-to-back defeats against NEC and Express FC. However, a resolute Kigezi HomeBoyz side put up a brave fight to extend the Kasasiro Boys’ winless run in the campaign.

The game kicked off with early drama when Filbert Obenchan pulled down Dominic Abonga inside the dangerous area in the third minute, but the referee waved away the hosts’ penalty appeals.

Ten minutes later, KCCA mounted their first real threat as Charles Lwanga met Saidi Mayanja’s corner kick, but his header went straight into the hands of Kigezi goalkeeper Norman Angufindru.

Lwanga remained a threat for the visitors, brilliantly beating his marker inside the box in the 31st minute, only to fire his effort over the bar.

The hosts nearly broke the deadlock six minutes before halftime when Abonga got on the end of Marvin Ainamaani’s fine cross, but his header drifted wide of the target.

KCCA started the second half on the front foot, with Etienne Katenga forcing Angufindru into a smart save five minutes after the restart.

The Kasasiro Boys thought they had finally found the breakthrough in the 61st minute when Saidi Mayanja put the ball into the back of the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Kigezi HomeBoyz almost stole all three points in the 72nd minute through Darius Arinaitwe, but KCCA goalkeeper Humphrey Oyirwoth pulled off a world-class save to tip the effort away.

Despite a frantic finish and relentless late pressure, KCCA failed to break down the hosts’ defence, leaving both sides to settle for a point.

The result leaves KCCA sitting 15th on the 18-team table with just a single point, while Kigezi HomeBoyz occupy 13th place.

Up next, Kigezi HomeBoyz travel to face SC Villa on Tuesday, September 15, while KCCA host Kataka FC the following day.
