Letter To The Editor: Patriotism Or Propaganda?

Photos: YouTube Screenshots The following letter to the editor was sent by Kimball Shinkoskey. On July 11, Fox News featured the “National Salute to America’s Heroes,” defined as military personnel and their expensive toys. Arguably the real historical heroes of American civilization─teachers, health care and public health professionals, and local social workers─had no place in this presentation. This show had several easily discernable goals. (1.) To promote the military’s use in the MAGA war against “domestic enemies,” including minorities, would-be immigrants, and “Dumocrats.”  (2.) To purchase votes for a world-shattering proposed budget increase for the national war department. (3.) To prepare our military for military adventurist cold-war or hot-war conquests in Venezuela, Cuba, Greenland, Canada, and who knows where else. The event ended with an evening of “honor, music, and community,” but no mention was made of the definition of real honor in America. That does not consist of blind “service” to an autocratic usurper of the rule of law, whether Republican or Democrat, but rather devotion to Congressional control of the military. In addition, no mention was made of the “honor” required by executive, legislative, and judicial branch practitioners in their oath to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.” Fidelity to the Constitution occupied no place in Fox’s definition of patriotism
