LPM launches youth forum, calls for governance

The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) Youth Command Element has launched its inaugural Youth Governance Forum, positioning young people as key drivers of democratic transformation.

The party says the forum aims to drive political change through a bottom-up approach where young people can actively participate in implementing the LPM’s agenda.

LPM youth spokesperson William Minnie, during the launch in Windhoek on Saturday, said the forum must go beyond discussion and translate into real action.

“This youth governance forum is not an academic exercise, it is a political intervention,” Minnie said.

He called for governance to serve the people and not a privileged few.

The launch was held under the theme ‘Reimagining Governance: Youth as Architects of Democratic Transformation’.

The launch brought together youth leaders, policymakers and party officials to engage in governance, accountability and youth participation in decision-making.

Minnie said young leaders should take responsibility for shaping accountable systems in challenges facing institutions, including inefficiency, patronage and growing inequality.

LPM deputy lead youth commander Melody Swartbooi said the forum marks a shift from viewing young people as future leaders to recognising them as leaders of today.

“Today we aren’t just opening a forum; we are launching a movement where our voices are the primary scriptwriters of our destiny,” she added.
