MEL Conference touts for effective use of evaluation findings to advance sustainable development

ARUSHA: EXPERTS from the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit of the Ministry of Energy, led by the Unit’s Director, Anitha Ishengoma, are participating in the 5th Tanzania Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Conference 2026, being held in Arusha from September 22 to 26, 2026.

The conference is being held under the theme, “From Evidence to Action: Strengthening Human-Centered Evaluation for Sustainable Development,” which emphasizes the importance of using evidence and evaluation findings to drive effective action towards sustainable development, with citizens placed at the centre of the development process.

The five-day conference has brought together government officials, monitoring and evaluation professionals, researchers, development partners and other stakeholders to exchange experiences, knowledge and best practices on the use of data, evidence and evaluation findings in the formulation and implementation of development policies, plans and projects.

During the conference, participants have the opportunity to learn and share experiences on effective monitoring and evaluation systems, the use of data and evidence in decision-making, and how evaluation findings can be applied to improve the implementation of plans, programmes and projects.

The approach is intended, among other objectives, to strengthen service delivery to citizens by ensuring that development decisions and the implementation of development plans continue to be guided by accurate information, data and evidence.

The participation of the Ministry of Energy in the conference is part of efforts to strengthen the use of data, evidence and evaluation findings in monitoring the implementation of plans, programmes and projects within the energy sector.

The participation also seeks to further promote a culture of evidence-based decision-making and ensure that monitoring and evaluation findings are effectively used to improve performance and implementation of energy-sector plans, while contributing to the achievement of the objectives of Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050.
