Zimbabwe’s senior women’s football team conducted a recovery training session in Polokwane on Tuesday afternoon following a long journey from home, as preparations intensify ahead of their opening match at the COSAFA Cup.

The team travelled by air from Zimbabwe to O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg before completing the final leg of their journey to Polokwane by road.

With their Group B opener against Eswatini scheduled for Thursday, the squad will have only one full training session before the match. Despite the limited preparation time, head coach Sibanda expressed confidence in the team’s readiness.

“Today, players are recovering, but tomorrow (Wednesday), we will really start to activate and prepare for the game.

“So far, everything is okay, and everyone is fine. I think we are ready for the game on Thursday,” she said.

Zimbabwe will be aiming for an improved performance after a disappointing showing in the previous edition of the regional tournament in 2024.

Sibanda has also rallied supporters to continue backing the team, highlighting the encouragement already received from fans in South Africa.

“We have fans here (in South Africa); some even welcomed us. We hope to give our best and make them happy.

“We obviously appreciate the support that comes from our fans, and we are calling for them to continue,” she added.

Zimbabwe has been drawn in a competitive Group B alongside Eswatini, Botswana and regional rivals Zambia, setting up a tough path to the knockout stages.
