On Friday, April 24th, country stars Morgan Wallen and Ella Langley released a new single ‘I Can’t Love You Anymore.” Austin Goodloe, Ben West, and Langley produced the song. This comes two weeks after the release of her sophomore album “Dandelion”. Langley sees the album as a reflection of herself, describing it as a deep personal project that happened to debut at No.1 on the Billboard 200.
This song is seemingly no different. Two of the biggest names in country music have finally collabed to describe a passionate, emotional story between two past lovers. This country-pop tune explores the struggle of letting go despite the lasting memories, as the chorus so adequately says, “Your memory pulls me right back in / It’s like I forget / I can’t love you anymore.” The artists trade verses to explain the emotional difficulty of dealing with a painful heartbreak on an infectious beat.
To fans of both multi-platinum award winning musicians, this collab seemed only a matter of time. Langley will join Wallen on his year-long “Still the Problem” tour and frequently joins him for on-stage duets. On Saturday April 18th, at Wallen’s 3rd show in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Langley joined the Tennessee Native on stage with big news, “Ella wrote this song and sent it to me about a month ago and I love it from the second I heard it,” Wallen told the crowd. Langley then promptly stated, “Well, I think this song comes out next Friday.” The duo went on to premier the unreleased song in front of 90,000 screaming fans.
But even before this live debut of “I Can’t Love You Anymore”, fans have speculated a collaboration between Wallen and Langley for quite some time. Towards the end of Langley’s music video for her Billboard No.1 hit song “Choosin’ Texas” , a still shot of a Tennessee license plate reading ICLYA can be seen. With the two artists’s ever-growing friendship and Wallen’s Tennessee roots, fans were left trying to figure out what it all meant. And now, we know.
Langley will appear at least eight more times on Wallen’s “Still the Problem Tour” in cities like Indianapolis on May 9th, Denver on May 30th and Chicago on June 20th. This is all happening as Langley prepares for her 3rd major headline tour “The Dandelion Tour” which kicks off at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio on May 7th. It will span across the four summer months and visit 16 major cities including St. Louis, Oklahoma City and Austin.
