Moshi Kids Center: Where children’s current wants and their future needs get solved in Kilimanjaro

For a casual glance, Moshi Kids center may look like an ordinary facility for taking care of deprived children.

But on closer look, the kids oriented charitable center goes much deeper and further.

Apart from providing underprivileged children with a life they have always wanted, Moshi Kids center starts shaping their future lives right from grassroots, whether the beneficiaries know it or not.

Located at the Msasani Street of Moshi Municipality in Kilimanjaro region, the institution is supported by Zara Tanzania Adventures through its Zara Charity arm, as part of the tourist firm’s corporate social responsibility.

“We identify the needy children in society through official local government channels,” explains the Moshi Kids Project Coordinator, Razack Amir, adding the center takes care of 70 children at the moment having started with just 25 about four years ago.

The kids in Moshi are provided with basic education, physical training, midday meals and placed on regular monitoring to ensure they get same opportunities in life like their more advantaged peers.

According to Razack Amir, the parent company, Zara Tanzania Adventures, through the Zara Charity uses the Moshi Kids center to nurture local needy children right from tender ages, basic schooling, secondary and tertiary education and even working to be shaping their respective future careers.

“We are quite confident that the beneficiaries will one day grow to become responsible adults, some will even work at our company, others may become teachers, doctors and even community leaders,” Amir maintained.

The facility in Moshi is a hybrid children’s center, comprising classrooms for learning and attractive playgrounds to make the children self-sufficient in practically everything.

‘’Children are provided with basic education through personalized attention to help them gain confidence and self-awareness,” he said, adding that extra-curricular activities such as sports and recreation and interaction as well as meals during school hours’’ Amir added.

But the facility still needs more support from members of the community.

“We are planning to build additional classrooms, add kitchen and dining facilities and expand the grounds to be able to accommodate more children,” the coordinator stated.

But with heavy dependance on travel activities, sometimes the center funding drops during the low seasons of tourism and running costs escalate.

In order to achieve the goals planned for the local children, the Moshi Kids center still in dire need of a number of auxiliary items such as Sports gear, text and exercise books and equipment for the playgrounds.

“We therefore invite other people, firms and well-wishers to also channel their support towards the project,” the coordinator requested.

Specializing mostly in Mountain Climbing but also conducting adventure safaris in other parks, Zara Tanzania Adventure marks its 40th Anniversary in 2026 uses the milestone to reflect back on how the community has been benefiting from its leisure travel operations.
