Crunchie Tart

South African chocolates never disappoint, I mean, who can argue that a Peppermint Crisp Tart isn’t one of the most South African desserts around? Well, The Crunchy is having a moment.

South Africa (09 April 2026)Om die kombuistafel has us drooling and planning the next family braai dessert! Leandra Hougaard, the creator behind the account dedicated to delicious South African recipes, has created a dessert to rival the family favourite! Help us welcome the Crunchy tart!

We all know the favourite is Peppermint Crisp tart, but having something new to try is so exciting! Leandra has a talent for capturing South African recipes we all love. From Roosterkoek to pumpkin pudding, the growing account is sharing some classics and some delicious new favourites too.

If we are not serving a milk tart or a malva pudding, the peppermint crisp tart is the go-to… until now.

The classic fridge tart is so popular, I have had a friend in Australia pay an eyewatering amount for peppermint crisps at the South African shop just to be able to share our dessert at her company’s “foods of the world” event. Now, we have a new one to obsess over.

Filled with crunchy honeycomb, this is a step in a whole new direction. We are eager to give it a try! Now… to find a braai.

Watch the delicious recipe below. Thank you, Om die kombuistafel, thank you!
