President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Friday arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, marking her second official visit to the country since the controversial re-election of president Samia Hassan.
She was received at Julius Nyerere International Airport before proceeding to Ikulu State House on Hassan’s invitation for bilateral talks.
Nandi-Ndaitwah will return to Namibia on Monday.
The visit aims to strengthen the long-standing diplomatic, political, and economic relations between Namibia and Tanzania, while exploring new areas for cooperation and mutual interest.
“The visit underscores the enduring bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two countries, relations that were forged during Namibia’s liberation struggle and nurtured over decades,” reads the Presidency’s statement, released on Friday.
Tanzania remains one of Namibia’s closest historical allies, having hosted thousands of Namibians in exile and provided political, diplomatic, and material support to Swapo during the country’s fight for independence, the statement says.
The state visit also presents an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss regional and continental issues, as well as avenues to deepen trade, investment, and people-to-people relations.
The visit comes after Hassan secured re-election in polls in November 2025, which drew criticism from opposition parties and human rights groups, who raised concerns over political freedoms and the electoral environment.
The Tanzanian government, however, maintained the elections were conducted in accordance with the country’s laws and democratic processes.
