Over 140 National Insurance Corporation (NIC) employees will receive a 10% wage increase over three years, from 2025 to 2027, after a new agreement between the National Workers Union (NWU) and the NIC.
The wage increase will be given in stages: 3% in the first year, 3% in the second, and 4% in the third, with back pay starting from January 2025. Talks are also ongoing to set up a gratuity transfer arrangement.
The agreement, reached after several meetings between both sides, also brings better employee benefits. These include higher travel allowances, rewards for long service after 7, 10, and 20 years and clearer rules for extra duty pay and compensation for late uniforms.
Plans are being made to officially sign the agreement, as required by labour laws, with the Labour Commissioner at the Department of Labour present.
NWU General Secretary Johann Harewood said both sides will keep track of how the agreement is carried out during its term.
The agreement will be in effect from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027.
