On Friday, June 5, members of the Orange Walk Road Policing Unit conducted a vehicle checkpoint operation along the Guinea Grass Road between 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
During the initiative, officers focused on intercepting illegal immigrants, unlicensed firearms, wanted persons, illegal drugs and motorists committing traffic offences.
Police reported that approximately 200 vehicles were stopped and inspected during the operation.
As a result of the checkpoint, officers issued eight traffic violation tickets for various offences.
Officials say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety, deter criminal activity and increase police visibility throughout the Orange Walk District.
Police have indicated that similar operations will continue as part of their commitment to keeping communities safe and enforcing the nation’s traffic laws.
