Pursuit ends with pickup truck on train tracks in Colton
The red Toyota Tacoma was reported stolen.
A police pursuit of a stolen truck ended with a suspect driving onto train tracks just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, police said.
A red 2018 Toyota Tacoma, reported stolen in Colton, was picked up by a Sheriff’s Department helicopter in San Bernardino by a LoJack stolen vehicle detection system, according to Lt. Christopher Gray of the San Bernardino Police Department.
Officers tried to do a traffic stop, but the suspect did not cooperate and Fontana police took over the pursuit on a freeway, Gray said.
The suspect turned around and headed back towards San Bernardino on the freeway. After getting on the southbound 215 Freeway near Colton, the suspect drove onto railroad tracks and left the vehicle on foot, Gray said.
Colton police officers arrested the suspect, a man. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen car and evading, Gray said.
Officers worked to clear the pickup from the tracks on Wednesday evening. The pickup was damaged, but it wasn’t immediately clear what caused the damage.
