The Archdiocese of Castries has announced that Holy Father Pope Leo XIV has officially accepted the resignation of Bishop Clyde Martin Harvey from the pastoral care of the Diocese of St. George’s in Grenada.

According to a press release issued by the Diocese of St. George’s on Tuesday, Archbishop Gabriel Malzaire of Castries, Saint Lucia, has been appointed as the Apostolic Administrator of the Grenadian Diocese. Archbishop Malzaire will oversee the administration of the diocese until a new bishop is formally appointed.

Following the announcement, the Archdiocese issued a call to the regional Catholic community, asking the faithful to keep Bishop Harvey, Archbishop Malzaire, and the people of the Diocese of St. George’s in their prayers during this period of leadership transition.

Archbishop Malzaire’s active administration begins this month, with his first scheduled public appearance set for Sunday, June 14, 2026. He will lead the monthly devotion at the Marian Shrine in Battle Hill, Grenada, starting at 3:00 p.m.

On the other hand, Bishop Clyde Martin Harvey retires from his post following a distinguished career marked by deep community advocacy, academic excellence, and pastoral care across the region.

Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on November 9, 1948, Bishop Harvey’s journey into the priesthood began after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of the West Indies (UWI) in politics and sociology. He went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Theology (magna cum laude) from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium which is the oldest Catholic university in the world. He then went onto completing postgraduate work in comparative religion and ethics in England and the United States.

Ordained as a Diocesan priest on June 27, 1976, for the Archdiocese of Port of Spain, he chose an ordination motto that would define his entire ministry, “To Make Known to Caribbean People the loving-kindness of the Heart of our God.”
