Swapping Cape Town’s coastline for the heart of Gauteng, Save a Fishie has teamed up with passionate local eco-warriors for cleanups that are sparking a wave of community transformation across Tembisa, Randburg, Diepsloot and Soweto.
Johannesburg, South Africa (01 June 2026) – Great minds think alike, and when they come together, incredible things happen for the greater good!
As part of its Coast to Coast 2026 cleanup campaign, Save a Fishie has taken over Gauteng, extending its mission beyond the shores of Cape Town to restore communities all over.
Last week, Save a Fishie founder Zoë Prinsloo and her team packed their bags and travelled to Johannesburg for a five-day mission.
Their goal? To tackle some of the area’s most littered and neglected public spaces in partnership with like-minded environmental organisations that make a difference on the ground every single day.
After sorting out some initial car rental issues, Zoë and her crew were ready to hit Tembisa for a major lake cleanup. Joining forces with various organisations – including the Tembisa Water Warriors, Tembisa Rotary Community Corp, ARMOUR (Action for Responsible Management of Our Resources), Greenways, the LIFE 4 U Foundation, and the Mpumelelo Drop In Centre – volunteers split into two groups to tackle different sections around the lake.

“The transformation was incredible to witness, with visible before-and-after results throughout the area,” Zoë shared. “The energy and passion from every volunteer were inspiring, proving once again what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared purpose.”
Day three saw Save a Fishie partner with Lovemore, founder of the Lovemore Foundation, to sweep through the township of Diepsloot.
“Lovemore and his volunteers work tirelessly to keep their community clean, often taking on what feels like an impossible task,” Zoë noted.

Though the litter in the targeted area was spread far and wide and the task felt immense, everyone rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in to make a lasting difference.
“This team was relentless. Bag after bag was filled as volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the day. In fact, we practically had to deliver water directly to them just to convince them to take a short break,” Zoë reflected after a long yet fruitful day with the Lovemore team.
Day four was a little less intense with Save a Fishie working alongside Girl Guides for a wonderful cleanup at Delta Park in Randburg.
The final leg of the campaign will see Save Fishie head to Soweto for the second-last cleanup of its Johannesburg campaign.
“Coast 2 Coast is about so much more than just cleaning. It’s about working WITH communities, supporting local changemakers, and collaborating with amazing organisations to showcase the incredible work being done across South Africa to combat pollution.”
A grateful Zoë extended a massive thank you to all the sponsors and supporters of the Coast 2 Coast 2026 campaign, who have made this entire initiative and journey possible.
“Together we continue to raise awareness, educate, inspire action and prove that collaboration is one of the most powerful tools we have.”
