St Mary’s Kitende have clinched the trophy of the USSSA Wakiso Boys’ Football Championship.
St Mary’s Kitende secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Kyadondo SS in the final played at Wakisha Grounds on Tuesday evening.
It was a heated game from word go and was played under a large but loud crowd that reacted to every dribble, tackle and call.
The highly attended game started on a slow note as Kyadondo SS preferred to start all its attacks from the back.
This stretched Kitende’s midfield but later Daniel Male’s troops implored a high press that disablised Kyadondo’s play from the back.
Kitende’s press paid off before the break as Dennis Kisiriko won possession before setting up Jordan Tugume, who broke the deadlock.
Kyadondo tried to respond through their danger man and quick-footed Masudi but Kitende’s backline stood firm and tall.
Midway through the second half, Kisiriko doubled Kitende’s lead with a brilliant finish after goalkeeper Ashraf Lukyamuzi hesitated to get off his line.
The game got spiced up in the dying minutes as the referee awarded Kyadondo a penalty. Masudi stepped up and smartly converted from the spot.
The encounter got fired up as Junior Odinga (Kyadondo SS) and Collins Okyata (St Mary’s Kitende) were both set off after starting up a fight.
At the end of the day, there was one champion and that none other than St Mary’s Kitende.
