At 65 years old, Steven is courageously facing Stage 4 lung cancer with incredible strength and courage. As he endures strenuous procedures, his loved ones are hopeful for more days spent together.
Benoni, South Africa (26 May 2026) – On the 3rd of September last year, Steven John Bayley – a devoted father, husband and grandfather – received news that would disrupt life as he’s always known it, sending him into a whirlwind of hospital visits, radiation, and chemotherapy.
At 65 years old, Steven is courageously facing Stage 4 lung cancer. Though it has spread to his brain and thyroid, causing seizures and adding to his daily challenges, he still endures every treatment session with admirable strength.
Even in the face of so much uncertainty, Steven continues to remain positive, determined to keep showing up, to keep living, and to keep being there for his family in every way he can.

Previous treatments were only made possible through the kindness and support of family, as Steven does not have medical aid.
Despite everything, the Bayleys have been given a renewed sense of hope. Steven’s son, Mathew Ugo O’Reilly-Boschin, shared that he is now eligible for further treatment that could help extend his life and give him more time with loved ones.
“Steven is more than his diagnosis. He is a loving husband, an incredible father, and a proud grandfather. He is the kind of man who has always put his family first – someone who shows up, gives endlessly, and loves deeply. All he is asking for now is more time: time to be with his family, to watch his grandchildren grow, and to create more memories that we can hold onto forever.”
His daughter, Kirsten Bayley, confirmed that immunotherapy has been suggested as an effective treatment.
“But unfortunately, the costs are far beyond what our family can manage alone,” Kirsten says.
The family is now reaching out to the greater public to open their hearts to their plight by helping raise the funds needed to cover the four rounds of immunotherapy (R392,000), four rounds of chemotherapy (R88 000), as well as hospital visits, MRI Scans, PET scans and medications (about R170,000).
