Taylor Dallas Vidic is an artist worth getting to know. Already respected in her native Juneau, Alaska, Vidic’s debut double album Cat & Mouse is her introduction to a larger audience. Frankly, it’s a hell of a way to say hello, as Cat & Mouse is as fine an album as will be released all year.

Vidic operates at the intersection of jazz and Americana, drawing on the sounds of both genres to create a unique musical niche for herself. To highlight these two influences, the album is broken into two halves, the jazz-heavy Side C and folk-centric Side M.

Lead single “Trash Birds,” taken from Side C is a snapshot of her approach to jazz — a gorgeous arrangement, tight playing from the large ensemble of instrumentalists and Vidic’s beautiful voice.
