The Mercenaries have won the fifth annual Great Anguilla Treasure Hunt, an island-wide event that tests local knowledge, promotes cultural heritage and fosters community.
The competition on 31 May challenged participants to recall their knowledge of Anguilla’s revolutionary past while solving riddles and completing themed activities.
Six teams, comprising 32 participants, took part in this year’s hunt, which was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Father of the Nation, James Ronald Webster.

Hosted by Quest Experiences, the challenge began at Pope Hill near James Ronald Webster’s mausoleum and it ended on Sandy Ground at Waves restaurant.
Four activities were carefully crafted to represent key moments in the 1967 Anguilla Revolution along the way, manager Clemvio Hodge told Anguilla Focus.

These included the British invasion, the Night of the Rambler sailing competition in partnership with the Anguilla Sailing School, and the first referendum to separate from the federation of St Kitts Nevis Anguilla.
“Teams competed in the activities, where a set of criteria determined the winners, then drove around the island to find Anguilla coins,” Hodge said.
“We created replicas of the .999 fine silver commemorative $25 coins issued for Anguilla which were hidden at locations of historical relevance to the revolution.
“Teams had to decode riddles provided to them after each activity.”
The Mercenaries successfully defended their title, winning the US$1,000 grand prize, while ALT F4 took second place and Treasure Chasers came in third.
The fun day concluded with a colourful fireworks display by Illuminations Special Effects.
Sponsoring the event were the Department of Youth and Culture, What We Do In Anguilla and ABC Supplies.
