The Mets Have A Prospect Who’s So Good Looking The Internet Is Convinced He’s AI

The New York Mets brought their top minor league prospects to Citi Field as part of the organization’s annual tradition of honoring their best young talent, and what was supposed to be a routine media availability turned into one of the most unhinged internet moments of the week. All because of one infield prospect named Mitch Voit, who walked into a press room looking like he was rendered by a computer and then had the audacity to also be really good at baseball.

As Yahoo Sports reported, Voit was at Citi Field on Monday after being honored with the Mets’ Development Player of the Year award when video of his media availability started circulating online. What followed was the kind of collective social media breakdown that only happens when reality genuinely challenges people’s ability to process what they are seeing. The man hit .273 this season across Single-A and Double-A, tallied 13 home runs, 59 RBIs and stole 45 bases, which is already an absurd stat line for a prospect the Mets selected 38th overall in the 2025 Draft. Then he walked into a press room looking the way he looks and the internet had no framework for it.

Voit himself kept it professional and baseball-focused during the availability, telling reporters: “I’m trying to figure out my strengths in the box and how do my strengths match up against this pitcher? And how can I maximize this at-bat to bring the most value in that moment?” A perfectly reasonable answer about his development as a hitter. The internet was not listening because the internet was already filing incident reports.
