Tyler Perry Reveals He’s Moving to Puerto Rico To “Slow Down A Bit”
After decades of cranking out movies at a breakneck pace, Perry says he’s moving to Puerto Rico with his son and pulling back on his workload.

If you’re tired of watching Black movies where you can guess the ending, then you may be in luck as Tyler Perry is looking to take a much-needed break.
The filmmaker plans to move to Puerto Rico with his 11-year-old son, Aman, early next year and will significantly reduce his workload after securing his spot in Hollywood as one of America’s most prolific movie makers.
“Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I’m pulling back a whole lot,” Perry told Justin Sylvester during a Sept. 14 appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.
The 57-year-old Perry noted that getting older played a role in his decision. And he really wants to spend more time with his son whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Gelila Bekele.
“It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in,” Perry said.
Perry’s announcement comes just days after his newest movie Why Did I Get Married Again? premiered on Netflix on September 9. The newest film includes several of the original cast members that helped launch the franchise some twenty years ago, including Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker, Jill Scott, Taraji P. Henson, and Richard T. Jones.
Apparently the film was shot in just four days, which is exactly the kind of pace Perry is looking to back away from.
“He knows what he wants. And he’s a technician at what he does,” Henson sad during a recent BlackTree TV interview. “He knows exactly what’s going on. He knows exactly what he has, what he doesn’t have.”
Perry described the film as a look at how people “grow, change, mature and settle into what marriage is,” but added that he has no plans walking down the aisle anytime soon. When asked if he has any plans to marry, Perry answered, “At this age, no, that’s not a good idea for me.”
