After weeks of speculation over the next leader of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, Verne Garde has returned as Commissioner, St. Lucia Times has confirmed.
Garde, a career lawman, previously served as acting chief and received a one-year extension in March 2025. His return now resolves the force’s top leadership. However, the terms of his new contract remain undisclosed.
His return also comes at a time when crime remains a major concern for the public, and the force is expected to continue implementing its “127 Steps to Order” operational plan, an anti-crime strategy developed by Garde and the hierarchy of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force earlier this year.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre recently described the plan as “innovative,” but noted that it would take some time before the country begins to see the full results of the strategy.
