Wanderers edge Kutchi Tigers B in low-scoring thriller

In one of the most dramatic encounters of the Cricket Uganda Men’s 50 Overs League – Silver Division, Wanderers Cricket Club held their nerve to secure a nail-biting one-run victory over Kutchi Tigers B in a match defined by disciplined bowling, gritty resistance, and relentless pressure from both sides.

Having won the toss, Wanderers opted to bat first, but their innings never quite found full momentum. Early setbacks saw them lose wickets at regular intervals, with the top order struggling to settle. Mandeep Singh fell off the very first ball, setting the tone for a challenging outing with the bat.

Edgar Mudoola emerged as the backbone of the innings, anchoring the side with a patient 23 off 57 balls. His knock, though not flashy, proved invaluable in a match where runs were hard to come by. Hitesh Prajapti added a useful 16 off 22 deliveries, while the rest of the batting lineup chipped in with small contributions. However, no other batter managed to reach double figures convincingly.

Kutchi Tigers B’s bowling attack was exceptional. Hitesh Bhudiya led the charge with a remarkable spell, picking up 4 wickets while conceding just 9 runs in 8 overs, including four maidens. Jignesh Kerai also impressed with 3 wickets, ensuring Wanderers were bowled out for a meagre total of 72 in 27.3 overs.

Defending such a low score required something special, and Wanderers delivered just that. Kutchi Tigers B’s chase got off to a disastrous start, losing their first two wickets without scoring. Wanderers’ bowlers capitalised immediately, applying immense pressure from the outset. Despite the early collapse, Chintan Kerai tried to steady the innings with a composed 30 off 50 balls, while Hitesh Bhudiya contributed 13 runs to keep the chase alive.

However, the defining performance came from Ivan Kakande. Leading from the front, he produced a match-winning spell, claiming 5 wickets for 24 runs in 8 overs. His precision and control dismantled the middle order and shifted the momentum firmly in Wanderers’ favour.

Eric Mukisa provided strong support, picking up 3 wickets, while Arthur Magwa and Julius Okema chipped in with one wicket each. Despite extras contributing significantly to Kutchi Tigers B’s total, Wanderers’ bowlers held their composure in the closing stages.

With just 2 runs needed and wickets in hand, the tension reached its peak. But Wanderers’ relentless pressure paid off as they bowled out Kutchi Tigers B for 71 in 25 overs, sealing a dramatic one-run victory.

Ivan Kakande was rightfully named Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round impact, particularly his decisive bowling spell that turned the game.

After four matches, Wanderers CC sit third on the table with 5 points, having registered 2 wins, 1 loss, and 1 no result.

With three games remaining in the regular season, the club remains firmly in contention for promotion and is well-positioned to push for a strong finish in the season.
