The sky is bright, the sea is calm, and Nassau has settled into one of its most relaxed periods of the year. The summer crowds have thinned, restaurant tables are easier to find, and the island feels a little more personal.

And right now, the airfare is compelling.

Bahamasair is offering roundtrip flights from Miami to Nassau for $293, with travel from Sept. 10-14, according to fares found on Google Flights.

It is an appealing price for one of the easiest international island trips from South Florida, with a flight of roughly one hour between Miami International Airport and Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau.

A Quick Four-Night Escape

The Sept. 10 departure gives you four nights in The Bahamas, enough for a long weekend centered on the beach, a stay at one of Nassau’s major resorts or a quieter trip built around local restaurants and historic neighborhoods.

Farther east, the Ocean Club, A Four Seasons Resort remains the grande dame of Paradise Island, with its Versailles-inspired gardens, white-sand beach and Dune, the Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant overlooking the Atlantic.

You could also choose the British Colonial Nassau, which pairs a private beach and harbor views with a location near downtown Nassau, the cruise port and the restaurants of Bay Street.

Beyond the Resort

Nassau works especially well for a shorter trip because you do not need to spend much of your visit in transit. Downtown, Cable Beach and Paradise Island are all within a relatively compact area, giving you more hours by the water and fewer in a car.

A long weekend could include conch salad at Potter’s Cay, cocktails at The Dilly Club, a walk through the galleries and studios at The Current at Baha Mar and an afternoon at Clifton Heritage National Park.

You can also take the ferry to Paradise Island, visit the Queen’s Staircase and Fort Fincastle, or spend a day at one of the beach clubs on Rose Island.

September falls within the quieter fall season in Nassau, when hotel prices can be more appealing than they are during winter and early spring. Travelers should keep an eye on weather forecasts, as the dates fall during Atlantic hurricane season, and travel insurance can be a sensible addition.

The Flight

The $293 roundtrip fare on Bahamasair includes the short nonstop hop from Miami to Nassau, making the trip especially practical for South Florida residents.

Fares can change quickly, particularly at the lowest available price. Travelers should also review the fare conditions and baggage allowance before completing a reservation.

At $293 roundtrip, the flight offers an affordable way to trade Miami for Nassau for four nights — with turquoise water, conch stands, beach bars and some of the Caribbean’s best-known resorts just an hour away.
