On 13 May in Cairo, the Director General of the Mauritanian News Agency, Mr. Mohamed Taqiyoullah Al-Adham, emphasized the need to combat fake news and media disinformation.
In a speech delivered today, Wednesday, in Cairo at the High-Level Global South Forum for Media and Think Tanks, the Director General noted that alternative media has placed the world at a difficult crossroads, where falsification, incitement, and distortion are all too easy.
He highlighted the high priority that Mauritania’s highest authorities, led by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, place on promoting the media and harnessing it to foster dialogue and rapprochement among the peoples of the world.
Mr. Mohamed Taqiyoullah Al-Adham stated that this meeting, organized by the League of Arab States and the Xinhua News Agency, represents an important opportunity to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between media and intellectual institutions in the Arab world and the People’s Republic of China, thereby serving common development goals, fostering understanding among peoples, and reinforcing the values of partnership and cultural and intellectual exchange.
He explained that media outlets and think tanks have today become essential partners in building bridges of communication, keeping pace with international transformations, and contributing to the dissemination of a discourse of moderation, development, and peace.
The forum’s opening session featured speeches by prominent figures, including the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and the Director-General of the Xinhua News Agency.
It was also attended by the Mauritanian Ambassador to Cairo, Mr. Al-Hussein Sidi Abdullah Al-Dai.
